A fuga das galinhas /Chicken run

dsc_0061-5

Guess who spent the entire morning walking around the vegetable garden?
I must have left the chicken run unlocked this morning when I went out to feed them. After lunch when I went back to clean the chicken coop I found the door wide open and Lola walking around the garden as tow other girls (Conchita and MariCarmen) looked out trying to decide if they, too, should go out for a walk. I had the dogs with me which caused the chickens to panic. Lola went to hide under the blackberries bush and the others decided it wasn't safe to come out and ran into the chicken run. I immediately had B on a leash ,since he was the most likely to disobey me if he decided to run after the chicken, and closed the door. Now I had to find a way to either capture or lead the chicken into the run. This wasn't going to be easy since none of my chickens is particularly tame specially the black ones (Lola and Paquita). Paquita was too busy being broody inside the coop so I had only Lola to worry about (thanks for that). The slow motion chase lasted for 20 minutes until I could persuade her to get into the chicken run .
The only positive note about this chicken adventure is that neither dog payed any attention to the chicken. Not even when the chicken was passing by her and I was asking her to chase her in my direction, not even then did Maria Antonia payed any attention to the bird. Maybe, with luck the birds will be able to walk around the garden every now and then.

Que filme he he

What an adventure for Lola. A friend of mine lets their chickens out in the morning and they go to their pen without encouragement for towards evening. They eat lots of bugs.

Ameixa, ;-). E o Matias?

Lisa, the only reason why I don't allow the girls to roam around the property is because I fear the dogs might hurt them.

When we kept chickens we let them out in the day and they went back in to their run at night. Our dog used to chase them occasionally, but never hurt them. Maybe your dogs will get used to them - it sounds as though it was OK this time. The only problem with chickens in the garden is that they may start pecking at your vegetables!

they are a bit of a nuisance in the veggie garden! I thought it would be nice for them to eat all the slugs and caterpillars, but they just dug up things and generally made a mess!
