Na horta / In the vegetable garden

Hoje andei a semear feijões, soja e rabanetes. Entretanto continuam a crescer os legumes plantados no inicio do mes passado.

Even though my free time is very little, I still try to do some work in the vegetable garden almost every day. All the winter crops are gone and now is time to see summer crops growing. I've been in the garden sowing some bush beans and soya beans. Meanwhile all the vegetables planted out last month are growing well (after a few inicial losses).

Courgetes /Summer squash

Abóboras /Winter squach

Alfaces /Letucce

Mais alfaces /More lettuce

I can't wait to taste it!)

Swiss chard (another novelty, it doesn't seem to be growing as fast as I would expect)

Nasturtiums (I tasted them for the first time today and they are delicious, a bit like watercress)

Tomate cherry /Cherry tomatoes

Beterrabas (não gosto de beterrabas, mas semeei-as para comer as folhas)/Beets (I really don't like them, but I intend to eat the leaves and not the root)

Alhos /Garlic
Cebolas/Onions
We also have some fruit growing for the first time.

Groselhas /Red currants

Nectarinas/Nectarines

Melões/Melons

Amoras (ainda só em flor)/Blackberries ( blooming)

Damascos/Apricots

And, surprise, surprise, one pear! I can't even begin to tell you how happy I was when I found it. This tree was planted more than 5 years ago and never had even blossomed, so call me silly, but I am really happy!

The garden is beginning to look delicious. I use nasturtium plants, too. They have quite a bite to them.

Fantastic! My vegetable garden is just about at the same stage as yours. You have so much more than I do, however. If I could grow anything it would be melons! It would be great to have lots of melons! Not warm enough where I am.

I think Swiss chard is more of a fall/winter crop for us.

No I will not call you silly at all. I hope that pear will survive until it is ready to be harvested by you so you can taste it.

We have a lot of vegetables in common I see, although yours are more advanced than mine. But as the weather is lovely right now my veggies are growing like mad! ;-)
