Colheita do dia /Todays harvest

dsc_0180

Apanhados há coisa de duas semanas, têm estado a secar e hoje foi dia de os limpar e guardar. Não sei que variedade são (eram alhos de supermercado) mas vêm mesmo a calhar porque os alhos do ano passado estavam a acabar.

Harvested two weeks ago, they have been drying and today they were cleaned and storaged. They weren't any particular variety (supermarket garlic) but they were ready for harvest just in time since last year's garlic is almost finished.

Se há coisa que não pode faltar na minha cozinha... são alhos :)

You are definitely ahead of the season over here. Nothing is quite like home grown garlic. Wonderful.

It's really early in the year for harvesting garlic! I usually do mine in July. How did you know it was ready?

Lisa, yes they make a nice picture didn't they?

Dalva, poliglota? hehehe

ameixa seca, nem na minha. É alho com tudo e tudo com alho ;-)

Matron, yes, the temperatures around here start to rise a lot sooner. I guess that's why things are always so ahead.

Patrick. I was a bit amazed too. All the other garlic (including the ones you sent me) are not ready yet, but these were already starting to dry. The leaves were already more than half dried so I thought I could harvest them.

I haven't tried growing garlic yet but I did tuck a few cloves around the rosebushes and peach tree for insect control. I had read somewhere that they are good deterents for aphids.

Garlic already! You are in advance of us. They look lovely. I can't wait for the new season's garlic, as last year's is definitely past its best. We should get this year's in the market in a few weeks' time and our own a few weeks later. Enjoy yours!
