Finalmente um fim de semana sem chuva! Aproveitei e passei o dia a jardinar. O jardim estava horrível, depois de um inverno muito frio e chuvoso. Muitas ervas daninhas, muitas plantas mortas. Depois de um dia inteiro de trabalho o aspecto ainda não é melhor, mas lá chegará.
A sunny weekend at last! I spent most of today in the garden doing some gardening. Did I missed that! The garden looks a mess covered with weeds and with lots of dead plants. That's what an unusually cold and damp winter will do to a mediterranean garden. At the end of the day it wasn't looking much better, but wit time things will go back to its normal.
Finalmente consegui arrancar o Echium candicans que tinha morrido durante o inverno (a principal baixa além das Lavandula angustifolia) e deparei com uma surpresa. Por baixo do Echium crescia um Aloe arborescens que já nem me lembrava de ter plantado. Está com bastante mau aspecto mas depressa deve recuperar e ocupar o espaço antes preenchido pelo Echium.
One of the things I did today was to break apart and shred the dead Echium candicans (one of this weather victims along with several adult lavenders). When doing so, I discovered a Aloe arborescens growing under it. I didn't even remembered having planted it. It's not looking its best but soon enough it will grow and cover the empty space left by the Echium.

Doesn't it feel wonderful to be able to get out in the garden.?. You will have it in shape in no time. I bet the dogs are thrilled to be outside more now too.
It feels great Lisa! We had the worst winter I can remember, so to finally have a sunny day to spend in the garden is wonderfull. The dogs are thriled too specially little Draco, so many things to discover... ;-)

Não sei se acontece o mesmo contigo, eu durante os Invernos assisto à destruição do jardim e vou-me convencendo de que isto da jardinagem não é para mim, mas assim que chegam estes primeiros raios de sol, não resisto à tentação de pôr tudo em ordem novamente. Este Inverno foi particularmente destrutivo ainda não tive coragem para recomeçar.
Porque é que o Echium morreu? Não duram muito tempo?

Rosa, é mais ou menos isso...Este inverno foi terrível, muita planta morta, muita erva daninha (muita mesmo!), mas agora é por mãos à obra e daqui a pouco já o jardim parece outro.
Tanto qto sei os Echium são arbustos de vida curta. Aqui no meu jardim fazem bem jus a essa fama, nunca me duram mais de 2-3 anos. Felizmente no compostor tinha-me nascido um q servirá para substituir este.

I'm glad to hear you're getting some spring weather at last! We are too. You must have had very cold, wet weather to lose lavenders - I thought they were tough enough to withstand anything.
