Em flor / Garden Bloggers Bloom Day

Como todos os dias 15 de cada mês é dia de Garden Bloggers Blooming Day. Esta é uma iniciativa do blog May Dreams Garden. O objectivo é mostrar todos os meses quais as plantas que estão em flor nos nossos jardins. Quem estiver interessado em participar só tem de publicar as fotos do seu jardim e deixar um comentario no May Dreams Garden.

Este mês não há grandes novidades, infelizmente a época das Iris e dos Cistus já terminou, mas as Salvias estão a começar.

Not many new blooms this month. The Iris and the Cistus are done with blooming, unfortunately, but Salvias are starting their season.

Na horta também se encontram algumas flores. Podem não ser tão espectaculares como as do jardim, mas a promessa de frutos torna-as talvez ainda mais desejadas.

In the vegetable garden there are a few blooms. They might not be as spectacular as the ones in the garden, but promise of sweet fruits makes them even more dear to me.

Na horta / In the vegetable garden

Embora o tempo seja escasso tenho feito um esforço por continuar a levar a horta adiante. Os legumes Inverno (ervilhas, favas, couves e nabos) já foram todos consumidos e agora é tempo de ver crescer os legumes de Verão. Hoje andei a semear feijões, soja e rabanetes. Entretanto continuam a crescer os legumes plantados no inicio do mes passado.

Even though my free time is very little, I still try to do some work in the vegetable garden almost every day. All the winter crops are gone and now is time to see summer crops growing. I've been in the garden sowing some bush beans and soya beans. Meanwhile all the vegetables planted out last month are growing well (after a few inicial losses).

Couve chinesa (esta é uma novidade para mim, estou com muita curiosidade em provar) /Chinese cabbage (a novelty around here, I can't wait to taste it!)

Acelgas (outra novidade, mas que parece não estar a desenvolver-se tâo depressa como o esperado)

Swiss chard (another novelty, it doesn't seem to be growing as fast as I would expect)

Chagas (provei-as hoje, uma delicia, com um sabor muito parecido ao do agrião)

Nasturtiums (I tasted them for the first time today and they are delicious, a bit like watercress)

Beterrabas (não gosto de beterrabas, mas semeei-as para comer as folhas)/Beets (I really don't like them, but I intend to eat the leaves and not the root)

E, surpresa das surpresas, uma pera! Nem podem imaginar como fiquei feliz quando a descobri. Parece um pouco tonto, mas a verdede é que esta árvore (e uma outra pereira) foi plantada há mais de 5 anos e nunca tinha produzido flor sequer. Parece que os meus cuidados rdobrados este ano serviram para alguma coisa.

And, surprise, surprise, one pear! I can't even begin to tell you how happy I was when I found it. This tree was planted more than 5 years ago and never had even blossomed, so call me silly, but I am really happy!

Pois, é verdade...tenho de pintar o muro. / Yes, I know...that wall needs a bit of paint.

Tenho andado um pouco arredado da blogosfera, é verdade. Mas com um horário complicado como o meu (raramente chego a casa antes das 22h), uma pós graduação, dois cães q exigem ser passeados todas as manhãs e um jardim para cuidar sobra pouco tempo para escrever e ler blogs. Na verdade sobra pouco tempo para o que quer que seja, e também a jardinagem tem sido escassa.
Por isso hoje passei o dia no jardim e resolvi fazer uma coisa que já andava a adiar há algum tempo, reenvasar todas as minhas Echeverias. E foi só hoje que me apercebi que aos poucos fui juntando uma colecção bastante jeitosa. 21 especies diferentes! Nada mau.

Lately its seems time is just too short for me. It's been a long time since I sat and read all my favorite blogs. I cant seem to find the time to garden too. I get home around 10 pm most of the days, and I have to study for my post graduate exams, in the morning I only have time to walk the dogs and of I go to work. So today, I spent my day of in the garden. I finally did something I wanted to do for ages, I repotted my Echeverias. I had them in small (rather ugly) plastic pots, and I changed them into these beautiful terracotta pots. Only then did I realized how big my collection has become. I have 21 different species (I didn't have pots for all). Not bad, don't you think?
