Sobre os cães/Dog news

Os dois estão óptimos desde que começaram os respectivos tratamentos. Ambos voltaram ao seu apetite e peso normais mas foi no comportamento que a maior mudança ocorreu. Os dois estavam muito menos activos, facto que eu atribuía à idade, mas depois do inicio do tratamento voltaram a ser como eram, activos, bem dispostos brincalhões. É bom ter os meus cães de volta.

They are both doing fine. The changes since they started their medication are unbelieveble. Thy have both put on the weight they have lost, and they are a lot more playful and active. In fact their behaviour has improved a lot. The changes I atributed to old age were in fact caused by disease. It's good to have them back as they were.

Chuva, finalmente... / Rain, at last...

Finalmente um pouco de chuva esta manhã. Este foi um Verão muito seco e apesar de regado o jardim acusou a seca. Acho que algumas plantas se perderam, mas só agora com as chuvas vou ver ao certo quem cresce de novo e quem já não dá sinais de vida. Uma poda rigorosa também se impõe uma vez que o abandono que sofreu todo o verão deixou as suas marcas.

The day started with rain. Finally some rain! This was a very dry summer and the garden suffered with it. Some of the plants might have been lost though I'll only be sure of that once the growing season starts again. It also needs a good pruning. I've been a lazy garden all summer and the garden looks terrible.

Chegou a altura de colher os figos. Normalmente são em tão grande numero que não sei que lhes fazer. Foi por isso que experimentei conservá-los em calda. Figos, açucar, água, canela e limão são os ingredientes. É na minhha opinião a melhor maneira de comer figos durante o Inverno. Um figo, calda e um pouco de natas por cima...não há melhor!

It's fig harvesting time again. I usauly get more figs than we can eat so I started preserving them. Apart from fig jam I do figs in syrup which are my favorite. Its the best way to eat them in the winter. A fig, some syrup and a bit of cream....few things can beat it!

Boas noticias / Good news

Algo de muito errado se deve ter passado com as minhas abóboras este ano. Frutificaram muito, é certo mas frutos de tamanho muito variável e muitos deles muito pequenos. Como se isso não bastasse hoje quando fui começar a colhê-las para secar deparo-me com pelo menos 4 delas neste estado. Rachadas! Vai ser impossível conservá-las pelo que só me resta uma solução (e esta é a boa noticia ), transformá-las todas em doce!

I'm guessing I did something really wrong with my butternut squash this year. The vines had plenty of fruit but some of them were too small. And as if that wasn't enough I found 4 of them cracked this morning. These won't store so I will have to turn them into jam. And that's the good news...
