Depois de uma longa ausência (20 dias sem publicar nada!) voltamos à nossa "programação" habitual. O tempo tem vindo a aquecer (demasiado na minha opinião) e as visitas à horta fazem-se apenas de manhã cedo ou à tardinha. As regas essas são quase diarias de modo a manter os vegetais felizes. As alfaces que ainda não foram comidas estão quase todas a espigar, excepção feita para as "ears of the devil" que se estão a aguentar muito bem.
I've been away for too long (20 days without posting!), but now we are going back to out schedule. The temperatures are raising (reaching almost 40ºC in the day) making it impossible to spend much time in the garden. I'm glad I did the watering system early in the season because I'm watering the veggies almost every day. Non the less the lettuces are, almost all, bolting. The 'Ears of the devil' (forgot to take a picture) are the only ones that aren't. I guess they are the best summer lettuces.
A rucula continua a crescer bem, embora tenha tendencia para florir demasiado cedo.
Arugula is growing well but also bolting a bit too soon.
O mangericão parece finalmente ter decidido começar a crescer depois de várias semanas em que esteve entre a vida e morte.
Basil is growing at last, after a few weeks when it seemed it would not make it.
O feijão verde de trepar também está finalmente a subir às canas.
Pole beans are growing nicely too.
O grão começa a dar as primeiras vagens. Apesar de não terem crescido tanto quanto eu esperava as plantas estão a florir bastante. As flores são minúsculas.
Chickpeas are starting to show their first pods. The plants didn't grow very tall but are blooming nicely. The flowers are so tinny.
O mesmo se passa com a soja. As plantas ficaram pequenas, mas estão carregadas de vagens.
Same thing with soy beans, the plants aren't that tall, but they are full of pods.
As courgetes estão também a produzir os primeiros frutos.

As abóboras "butternut" também (parece que vamos ter doce de abóbora com farrtura este ano)

Esta é uma abóbora desconhecida. As sementes foram-me dadas como sendo da variedade "Hokkaido", mas não se parecem nada às imagens que andei a pesquisar na net.
This is a unknown winter squash. The person that gave me the seeds told me they were "Hokkaido" but they don't look a bit as the ones I see in the net.
Os pepinos também têm estado a produzir bastante este ano. Estou a colher um pepino novo quase todos os dias.
Cucumbers are growing nicely. I'm picking a new cucumber almost every day.

Os alhos franceses estão em flor.Vou guardar sementes para semear no ano que vem.
Leeks are setting seeds, which I will keep for next year.
Os alhos também estão a florir. Estas flores são optimas para comer nesta altura. Eu usu-as em saladas (picadas) ou grelho-as para acompanhamento.
Garlic escapes is a seasonal produce that most people don't use. I like mine minced in a salad or roasted as a side dish.
As cebolas que ficaram do ano passado estão a florir também, e irão produzir sementes para o ano que vem. Algumas delas não deram flor e no seu lugar estão a dar o que parecem pequenas cebolas. Será que as posso utilizar para produzir novas plantas?
The onions that remained from last year are setting seeds. Some of them however are producing what look like tinny onions instead of flowers. I wonder if these can be used to plant new onions?
