Comecei agora a apanhar as primeiras favas, semeadas em Novembro.

Its time to start picking the first broad beans. These were sowed last November.

O "relvado" de tomilho/ Thyme lawn

Parece que finalmente encontrei um tomilho que dará um bom "relvado". Enquanto que todas as outras especies q experimentei acabaram por não aguentar os rigores do Verão e morrer este manteve-se vivo, cresceu e está com optimo aspecto. A má noticia é que o comprei num viveiro e vinha sem qualquer identificação. Assim não me vai ser possivel comprar mais e terei de o tentar reproduzir. Parece que este projecto ainda levará muito tempo até ficar completo.

Looks like I finally found the right thyme for my lawn. after trying with a few diferent species it looks like this is the one. All the others died but this one is beautiful after one year (meaning it spent summer and winter in the garden and still looks nice). The bad thing about it is that I bought it in a garden center and it didn't come with a label, so I have no idea of which species/cultivar it is. I will have to try to reproduce it if I want a good lawn. Looks like this is a project that will still take some time to be finished.

A ficar com melhor aspecto / Getting in shape

Mais uma manhã de jardinagem. Mais uma manhã a arrancar ervas. Ainda assim continua com este aspecto. Bastante melhor do que estava mas ainda longe do seu melhor.

I spent this morning pulling weeds. This is a task that seems never to end. But the garden is starting to look better.



A maior parte dos arbustos já foram podados e estão agora com melhor aspecto. Ainda há muita erva por arrancar, mas acreditem, a maior parte já foi parar ao compostor.

The shrubs have been pruned and look a lot better. And even though there is still a lot of weed to be pulled, most of them are in the compost bin already.

Eles crescem tão depressa.../ Dont't they grow fast?

Dia de jardinagem/Gardening day

Finalmente um fim de semana sem chuva! Aproveitei e passei o dia a jardinar. O jardim estava horrível, depois de um inverno muito frio e chuvoso. Muitas ervas daninhas, muitas plantas mortas. Depois de um dia inteiro de trabalho o aspecto ainda não é melhor, mas lá chegará.

A sunny weekend at last! I spent most of today in the garden doing some gardening. Did I missed that! The garden looks a mess covered with weeds and with lots of dead plants. That's what an unusually cold and damp winter will do to a mediterranean garden. At the end of the day it wasn't looking much better, but wit time things will go back to its normal.



Finalmente consegui arrancar o Echium candicans que tinha morrido durante o inverno (a principal baixa além das Lavandula angustifolia) e deparei com uma surpresa. Por baixo do Echium crescia um Aloe arborescens que já nem me lembrava de ter plantado. Está com bastante mau aspecto mas depressa deve recuperar e ocupar o espaço antes preenchido pelo Echium.

One of the things I did today was to break apart and shred the dead Echium candicans (one of this weather victims along with several adult lavenders). When doing so, I discovered a Aloe arborescens growing under it. I didn't even remembered having planted it. It's not looking its best but soon enough it will grow and cover the empty space left by the Echium.

Mais Dracolices.../ A few more pictures with Draco

Correndo o risco de transformar isto num blog sobre cães aqui vão mais umas fotos do "rebento"(de notar a expressão vagamente alusiva a jardins). As fotos já não são de agora, mas com este tempo não tenho conseguido fazer fotos decentes. No jardim e na horta continua tudo à mercê da intempérie (sendo que a única coisa que parece crescer com gosto são as ervas daninhas)

I know this is suposed to be a garden blog. Not a blog about dogs. But...I haven't been gardening much lately (the weather just won't improve) and you have to admit that puppy photos are always cute to look at. Besides I would be ashamed to show you any garden or vegetable garden photos (nothing there but weeds...big weeds - the only thing that seems to like these heavy rains).
These are not recent pictures (2-3 weeks old, but the weather hasn't been good for pictures either)
