Vamos passear? /Shall we go for a walk?

Já há algum tempo que não os levo a passear com o B e a Maria Antónia. Querem vir dar uma volta? Os cães estão a ficar ansiosos, é melhor pormo-nos ao caminho.



Its been a while since I last took you for a walk with my two dogs, B an Maria Antonia. Shall we go? We better start walking, the dogs are getting anxious.





É muito cedo, por isso a luz pode não ser a melhor para fotografias, vamos ver o que se consegue...



Its really early in the morning so I don't know if we will have the best light for photographing...









A paisagem não está muito interessante, as plantas ainda estão a começar a crescer e a recuperar do calor estival. Ainda há muitas plantas secas.



There still isn't much to see. The plants are still trying to get over the damage that the summer heat caused. You can still see lots of dry plants.





Os principais pontos de interesse são os frutos e as capsulas que muitas plantas apresentam.



Most plants have fruits and seed heads that bring some interest to the scenery.


















Os javalis estão de volta em busca de alimento. Na base de quase todas as oliveiras encontramos vestigios da sua passagem.



Wild hogs are back. You can see where they were scavenging for food. They really must like olives.









É raro encontrar por aqui arvores que no outono fiquem com as folhas desta cor. Não faço ideia qual é a especie e só a fui encontrar porque ao longe a cor das suas folhas sobressai sobre todas as outras arvores.



Its not very comun to find trees that turn this color when loosing its leaves during autumn. I have no idea of its name, and if it weren't for its red leaves I would heve never seen it.







Algumas plantas começam já a abrir as primeiras flores. É o caso dos Cistus que timidamente vao começando a florir aqui e ali.



Some plants are already starting to bloom. Its still very early but a few Cistus are already blooming.























E findo o passeio estamos de regresso a casa. Esta é a paisagem (com o mar ao fundo)que se vê da janela do meu quarto. Se calhar um dos proximos passeios vai ser à praia.



And we are back home again. This is what we can see from my bedroom's window. Seeing the see makes me want to go the beach. Maybe our next walk will be near the see.

Noticias do galinheiro /Chicken talk

Estas são as ultimas fotos das "miudas" (já não falava delas há uns tempos).

Primeiro que tudo deixem que lhes diga que fotografar galinhas não é canja! O raio dos bichos não há meio de pararem quietos.

Its been a while since I last wrote about "the girls". These are their last photos.

Let me tell you for starters that photographing chickens is no piece of cake. There's no way they will hold still for you.

A não ser quando o cão se aproxima e elas entam em modo de alerta.

Unless the "Big Black Dog" approaches and they go into alert mode.

De contrário passam o dia a debicar e a esgravatar, sempre a correr de um lado para o outro.

The rest of the time is spent scratching around looking for food.

E claro que volta e meia sai-lhes a sorte grande e ganham um pequeno almoço de princesas. No caso uma taça cheia de pão demolhado e tomate.

And every now and then they receive the royal treatment, in the form of a great breakfast (Today it was bread crumbs and tomato)

É engraçado vê-las crescer, e perceber que embora não sejam os animais mais inteligentes do mundo, cada uma delas tem a sua personalidade diferente.

Chickens are really funny creatures. They are not the smartest animal on earth but still they are very interesting to look at. They each have their own different personality.

MariCarmen, a mais afoita, é sempre a primeira a explorar as coisas novas. A primeira a comer da minha mão.

MariCarmen is the bravest of them all. She is always the first to come and check new things out. She is also the first to come and eat from my hand.

Conchita, a irmã gemea. Distinguem-se apenas pelo facto de esta ser ligeiramente mais escura e ligeiramente mais timida.

Conchita is her twin sister. I can only tell them apart because she is slightly darker then her sister.

Paquita, a mais timida, a mais medrosa mas também a mais bonita. Raramente come da minha mão, a não ser que seja uma verdadeira iguaria.

Paquita is the best looking of them all. She is also on the bottom of the pecking order (I guess the others envy her) as she is very shy. She will only eat from my hand if I tempt her with something really good.

E finalmente a Lola, que parece tratar-se de uma fêmea e não de um macho como cheguei a pensar. Continua a ser a maior, a mais comilona e parece ser a chefe do bando.

And finally Lola. It looks like she is a she after all (one less problem to solve). She is the biggest, and she seems to be on top of the pecking order tough sometimes I have my doubts.

Sementes II/ SeedsII

Voltando a falar de sementes de variedades horticolas gostava de lhes falar da associação "Colher para Semear". Esta associação dedica-se à recuperação, manutenção e difusão das nossas variedades tradicionais. Aos nos tornarmos sócios estamos a contribuir para a manutenção de inumeras variedades horticolas. Os sócios recebem ainda todos os anos sementes dessas mesmas variedades e têm a possibilidade de apadrinhar uma ou mais variedades e ajudar na sua recuperação. Já há algum tempo que andava com vontade de me tornar sócio e o mês passado finalmente o fiz. No inicio do ano devo poder escolher as sementes que gostaria de receber (já tenho algumas ideias...)

"Colher para semear" (grossly translate to "Save them to sow them"...the seeds of course) is a portuguese association that is working on preserving our traditional varieties of vegetables and fruits. Last month I decided to make myself an associate. This way I may help preserving some tradicional varieties that are in danger of vanishing. In January I will be able to chose some seeds I would like to receive (and I already have some ideas on what I would like to receive...)
